As our flagship wine, this Riesling perfectly expresses the unique growing conditions of our single vineyard estate in South East Kelowna.
The bouquet is intense, with aromas of ripe pear and gala apple followed by citrus zest, coconut oil and savoury botanicals.
Pale lemon in colour, the wine offers near perfect balance: juicy yet refined. A hint of sweetness up front harmonizes with the mouth-watering natural acidity, providing an intriguing tension in the wine. Granny Smith apple, key lime and guava are beset on all sides by subtle minerality.
The wine is comprised of 7 blocks of Riesling plantings dating back to 1978. With the final blend in mind, each block of fruit was vinified separately to enhance individual nuances. The resulting wine is layered and complex and showcases all of the best attributes of the 2010 growing season.
The 2010 growing season was a challenging one for our viticulturist. An early bud break meant we were off to a good start. A month long patch of cold weather slowed growth, followed by rain during the flowering phase which resulted in naturally low yields. Sunshine and warm temperatures in July allowed the vines to catch up slightly but a cooler August and September slowed ripening down again. This gradual ripening produced outstanding intensity in the fruit. Harvest took place two weeks later than our average picking date but good weather ensured optimal picking conditions and excellent grape quality.
Like all of our wines, this Riesling was farmed by hand, using sustainable viticulture techniques.
