Our 2010 vintage provides a rare glimpse into the true personality of this most noble of grape varietals. It's gorgeous minerality, subtle fruit characteristics and angular acidity reminds us that power and elegance dwell harmoniously in a well made wine.
Winemaker David Paterson describes the 2010 vintage "as pale straw in colour with aromas of lemon curd, brioche and roasted pineapple. The palate offers flavours of pure, ripe lemon, ripe peach and palm sugar caramel. Its finely tuned structure and tightly wound acidity are in balance with its beautiful minerality. A touch of cream rounds out the long, complex finish."
Vineyard conditions at our South East Kelowna site were somewhat cooler in comparison to the unusually warm 2009 vintage - weather well suited to the Chardonnay grapes aversion to blistering heat. Viticulture practices followed our long held ethos of sustainability, through the use of organic composts and soil preparations, hand weeding and minimal watering. Vine balance is our watchword.
This wine was fermented and aged in a selection of French oak barrels of varying ages and cooperages. Light battonage was performed and a partial malolactic ferment took place in spring 2011. The wine was bottled in Sept. 2011.
Block 6 Chardonnay is populated by 1985 German and 2006 Dijon plantings. This gently sloping block sits on an easterly aspect. Loamy soils provide excellent drainage.
While this wine can be enjoyed now, it will ultimately reward those who cellar it for 1 to 10 years.
